U.S. stock indices opened the Wall Street session on Tuesday with mixed gains, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average outperformed while the tech-heavy Nasdaq index lagged. Investor sentiment was affected by concerns over the tariffs that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to implement.

This comes as investors await important data for the manufacturing sector, job vacancies, and the turnover rate in the United States today, ahead of the release of the minutes from the Federal Open Market Committee meeting tomorrow, which has heightened investor caution at the start of the session.

In terms of trading, the performance of the U.S. stock indices at the opening was as follows:

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 201.75 points, or 0.47%, reaching 42,908.29 points.
  • The S&P 500 rose by 0.24% or 14.02 points, recording 5,989.83 points.
  • The Nasdaq Composite, heavily weighted in technology stocks, gained 0.1% or 14.56 points, reaching 19,918.41 points.
  • The Russell 2000 index for small-cap U.S. companies remained stable at 2,266.64 points.

Shares of U.S. chipmaker Nvidia rose by 0.2% after launching new chips for desktop and laptop computers using the same Blackwell architecture, while Tesla shares fell by 1% after Bank of America downgraded the electric vehicle maker due to its high valuation and the risks associated with its strategy.
