U.S. stocks return from the holiday and open trading lower.
U.S. stock market indicators returned to trading in the red after the Christmas holiday, with benchmark indices recording negative performance at the opening of Thursday's session, following an increase in U.S. jobless claims by 219,000 in the past week, while an increase of 223,000 was expected.
After the market opened, the performance of U.S. stock indices was as follows:
- The S&P 500 index settled near the level of 6,026.34 points, with a decrease of about 0.23%.
- The Nasdaq Composite index fell by about 0.38%, recording a level of 19,956.00 points.
- The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped to 43,196.75 points, losing about 100.28 points after the market opened.
