Wall Street sees strong losses for U.S. stocks at the ringing of the bell.
U.S. stocks declined at the opening of Thursday's session, affected by a drop in unemployment claims by 12,000, to 216,000 new requests, reflecting the strength of employment and thus consumer spending.
The performance of U.S. stock indices at the opening was as follows:
- The S&P 500 index recorded a decline of about 0.80%, reaching 5,767.23 points.
- The Nasdaq Composite lost about 228.12 points at the opening, recording a decline of 1.23% to reach the level of 18,379.81 points.
- The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by 211.47 points, settling near 41,930.07 points.
It is worth noting that U.S. stocks closed the session on Wednesday with a clear decline across all benchmark indices, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 0.22%, closing at 42,141.54 points.
Additionally, the S&P 500 index recorded a level of 5,813.67 points, with a decline of 0.33%, while the Nasdaq Composite lost 162.95 points, recording 20,387.70 points.
