U.S. stock indexes open lower after inflation data.

U.S. stock indices opened lower on Thursday following the release of the September inflation report earlier in the day, which showed that consumer price inflation came in higher than expected.

In terms of trading, the performance of U.S. stocks after the opening was as follows:

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 0.20%, recording 42,428 points, after Boeing shares decreased by 3.41%.
  • The Nasdaq 100 index lost 0.58%, to record 20,157 points.
  • The S&P 500 index declined by 0.31%, recording 5,774 points, with shares of Constellation Energy Corp falling by 6.12%.

Government data released today showed that the Consumer Price Index rose by 2.4% in September compared to the previous year, which is higher than the 2.3% anticipated by experts, but lower than the previous month's reading of 2.5%.
