Trump Issues Strong Warning to BRICS Countries on Dollar's Dominance
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump issued a stern warning to the BRICS nations, urging them not to take any actions that threaten the U.S. dollar's position as the world's dominant currency. Trump's remarks were made via his own platform, "Truth", and on X (formerly known as Twitter).
In his post, Trump stated that any efforts by BRICS countries to move away from using the dollar or challenge its global supremacy will not go unnoticed. He called on these nations to refrain from creating a new currency to rival the dollar or backing any foreign currency to replace it. Trump warned that any such move would trigger tariffs of up to 100%, in addition to a complete ban on access to the U.S. market.
The President-elect emphasized that the U.S. dollar will continue to be the backbone of global trade. He cautioned that any country attempting to replace the dollar would face severe consequences, including the potential loss of economic ties with the United States.
Trump's remarks come as his administration prepares to take office in 2025, amid growing global challenges to the dollar’s dominance. Several countries are actively seeking to boost the use of their local currencies in international trade, which could potentially undermine the dollar's role.
