The newly elected U.S. President, Donald Trump, has expressed strong opposition to China's ongoing management of the Panama Canal, signaling his intention to challenge the current policies governing its operation.

According to TASS news agency, Trump criticized the situation, stating, "They got it for one dollar, then they impose higher tariffs on our ships. This won't happen. China manages the Panama Canal, and I won't allow that either."

In earlier remarks, Trump suggested that the United States may seek to regain control of the canal if a new agreement regarding its usage terms is not reached. He also strongly condemned the high tariffs imposed on American vessels passing through the canal.

The Panama Canal, one of the world's most strategic maritime routes, connects the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, making its management a pivotal factor in international relations. As geopolitical tensions between the United States and China continue to rise, the issue of the canal's control is becoming increasingly significant, especially as Washington looks to curtail China's influence over critical global trade routes.
