Urgent: Discrepancy in PMI manufacturing and services indicators in the Eurozone.

Data released by the S&P Global Statistics Office on Monday showed a negative reading for the Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) in the Eurozone for December, as the preliminary reading recorded a contraction at 45.2 points, which is lower than expectations that indicated a reading of 45.3 points. The previous reading for the Eurozone in November was also 45.2 points.

This index measures the level of activity of purchasing managers in the manufacturing sector, and it is primarily based on original survey data collected from 1,000 companies in the manufacturing and services sectors in the Eurozone. It is based on about 85% of total monthly responses to the purchasing managers' survey. A reading above 50 indicates growth, while a reading below 50 reflects contraction.

At the same time, the data showed that the preliminary reading for the Services PMI in the Eurozone came in positive, with the index recording growth at 51.4 points in December. This is better than market expectations, which indicated a reading of 49.5 points. The previous reading for the services index in November was 49.5 points.

It is worth noting that this index measures the level of activity of purchasing managers based on the survey conducted in the services sector. The Services Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for the Eurozone relies on data collected from about 500 companies in the service sector within the Eurozone. The index tracks several variables such as: sales, employment, inventories, and prices within the Eurozone. Additionally, it can be said that the preliminary estimates are based on about 85% of total monthly responses to the purchasing managers' survey, and a reading below 50 indicates contraction in the services sector within the Eurozone, while a reading above 50 indicates growth.
