An Australian senator shouts at the King of Britain, demanding the end of colonization.
During the visit of the King of the United Kingdom, King Charles III, to Australia on Monday morning, Senator Lidia Thorpe shouted at the British monarch with anti-colonial and anti-settlement phrases regarding Britain’s history in Australia, interrupting the parliamentary reception held in his honor.
While shouting at him, Thorpe said: "This is not your land, and you are not my king." She accused European settlers and Britain of committing "genocide" against the Indigenous people of Australia and ultimately demanded that Charles return Indigenous lands, denouncing the historical injustices inflicted by Britain on Australia’s first inhabitants.
Thorpe concluded her shouting at King Charles with the phrases: "Give us back our land... Give us what you stole from us," before being escorted away from the reception ceremony.
