On Thursday, the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia released data on the state’s manufacturing index for the month of October, which came in positive for the second consecutive month and surpassed market expectations. According to the data, the Philadelphia manufacturing index recorded growth of 10.3 points in September, which was better than market expectations that anticipated the index would only grow to 4.2 points. The index had previously risen to 1.7 in September. This index is based on a survey conducted with manufacturers in Pennsylvania to gauge the overall conditions of businesses. Companies are quickly affected by the economic situation and market conditions within the United States. Thus, it measures any changes in business conditions and is considered an indicator of economic activity in the upcoming period in the United States, which also impacts the trading of the U.S. dollar, especially as it coincides with data on U.S. unemployment claims. It is worth noting that if the index reading is above zero, it reflects an improvement in the manufacturing sector conditions in Philadelphia. Conversely, if it is below zero, it indicates poor conditions. Additionally, it is notable that the data for this survey is collected from around 250 manufacturers in Philadelphia.
