Ivey Business School has just released the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) data for Canada for the month of September, which came in positive and above market expectations for the first time in two months.

According to the data, the Ivey PMI in Canada recorded approximately 53.1 points in September, which is higher than the expectations that indicated it would record 50.3 points. The previous reading of the index was about 48.2 points in August.

It is worth noting that the PMI index issued by Ivey College measures the level of activity among purchasing managers in Canada. This survey is conducted on about 175 purchasing managers who assess business conditions including: employment, production, new orders, prices, and inventories.

If the index reading rises above the benchmark level of 50.0 points, this indicates growth in industrial activity; if it comes in below that, it indicates that industrial activity is contracting. This index is a joint project between the Canadian Purchasing Management Association and the Richard Ivey School of Business.
