Bitcoin surpasses 103 thousand after breaching the 100 thousand dollar threshold within minutes.
The price of Bitcoin, the leading cryptocurrency by market capitalization, has seen a significant increase for the second consecutive session, breaking the main $100,000 level for the first time ever since it started approaching it on November 21 of last year. It was traded at $103,620 during Asian trading sessions, according to data from BitStamp.
This marks a substantial increase of over $4,000 for Bitcoin during today’s session, as the cryptocurrency rose from the $94,500 level recorded just yesterday. It reached the new peak of $103,620 just five minutes after crossing the historic $100,000 threshold.
This sharp rise followed the announcement by elected President Donald Trump of his nomination of former SEC Chairman Paul Atkins—known for his pro-cryptocurrency stance—to lead the SEC after Gary Gensler's resignation.
The latest increase has pushed Bitcoin to achieve a record gain of 140% since the beginning of this year, surpassing most traditional assets, resulting in a market capitalization of Bitcoin exceeding $2 trillion for the first time in history.
