The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said on Thursday that ongoing talks with El Salvador highlight the need to strengthen and enhance reforms, while addressing the emerging risks associated with the use of the digital currency Bitcoin remains a key element of the discussions. In this regard, IMF spokesperson Julie Kozak stated at a press conference that narrowing the scope of Bitcoin transactions is what the IMF recommends, alongside enhancing the regulatory framework and oversight of the digital Bitcoin system, and reducing the public sector's exposure to Bitcoin. Additionally, the IMF official mentioned that the proposed budget for El Salvador for 2025 is a good step towards strengthening public finances that require robust implementation.
