Yanis Stournaras, a member of the European Central Bank and Governor of the Bank of Greece, stated in remarks issued on Monday that it is reasonable and appropriate for the European Central Bank to decide to lower interest rates by 50 basis points by the end of this year.

In addition to this, the ECB member warned that the tariffs that President-elect Donald Trump intends to impose may cause a recession for euro economies in the medium term.

In other comments regarding the European Central Bank, he stated that if policymakers had perfect insight and foresight about the shocks that were about to hit the economy - referring to the COVID-19 pandemic crisis - interest rates would have been raised earlier and more aggressively.
