A member of the U.S. Federal Reserve clarifies the possibilities of interest rate cuts in December.
Susan Collins, a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, told The Wall Street Journal that lowering interest rates again at the upcoming December meeting is indeed on the table; however, it is not yet decided.
Collins also stated in this regard that there are still many economic data points that will be released from now until the December meeting, emphasizing that logical decisions should continue to be made.
Additionally, Collins suggested the possibility that the Federal Reserve may eventually slow the pace of interest rate cuts; however, it is too early to determine whether this will happen in December. She also stated that she does not see evidence of new price pressures that could ignite U.S. inflation.
Moreover, Federal Reserve member Kogler clarified yesterday that if the path of U.S. inflation towards the target gets hindered, the central bank may temporarily stop lowering interest rates.
