Urgent.. Release of PMI indicators data for the manufacturing and services sectors in the UK.
Data released by the IHS Markit statistics office IHS Markit affiliated with S&P Global on Friday morning showed a negative reading of the preliminary Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for the manufacturing sector in the UK for the month of November, with the preliminary reading indicating a contraction at 48.6 points. This was lower than market expectations, which forecast a reading of 50.0 points, and also below the previous reading of October, which was 49.9 points.
At the same time, the preliminary reading showed that the PMI for the service sector in the UK recorded 50.0 points in November, which was lower than market expectations that anticipated a reading of 51.9 points, following a growth reading of 52.0 points in the previous month of October.
It is worth mentioning that a reading above 50 indicates growth in activity in the manufacturing and service sectors, while a reading below 50 indicates a contraction in sector activity. Usually, two readings are issued for this index within a week: preliminary estimates and the final reading, with the preliminary estimates released first and having a stronger impact.
